Lugano and Lake Como: Not So Far Away!

If you can't wait to get away from New York's iffy spring season of rain and snow, look for Europe airline tickets. If you want natural beauty without the beachcombers and tourists, you may want to think about Southern Switzerland and the surrounding Lake Region of Northern Italy.

Do All Travel, your favorite Brooklyn travel agency, has specials to Lake Como and Lugano, two beautiful towns in the Cisalpine region of Europe, which is what the Romans called the closer side of the Alps. These lakeside towns have been known for their beauty since Antiquity. Pliny the Younger composed the Tragedia and the Comedia in his Lake Como villa here more than 2000 years ago. Today it continues to amaze visitors with its beauty and year round warm weather.

Lugano, in Switzerland, has had a slightly more turbulent history. The town was an outpost in ancient times and was a subject of contention between the Dukes of Milan and Como until 1513. From then on, it was under the dominion of the Old Swiss Confederation until Napoleon's time. His creation of the Helvetic Republic unified the loosely federated Swiss and lower German cantons, but only for about five years, from 1797-1802. After mediation Lugano became part of the canton Ticino, which still exists today.

These towns are the perfect getaway for a honeymoon, a weeklong vacation with the kids, or heck, even a romantic weekend. Europe airline tickets are cheaper than they have been for years with the fall of the Euro, so talk to Do All Travel, your Brooklyn travel agency, about booking a trip today.
